The concept
Aboard most vessels, AIS ends where the chartplotter begins. The data arrives over NMEA, gets drawn on a screen, and stays there.
We are building a Class B AIS transceiver with native IP networking: the AIS radio integrated with a networked embedded platform, so that traffic can be carried over Ethernet or Wi-Fi to on-board systems, shore-side infrastructure or your own software.
It is aimed at operators who already have a network and want AIS to be part of it: fleets, ports, coastal stations, and integrators building on top of vessel traffic data.
Design approach
- Network-native. Ethernet and Wi-Fi backhaul alongside the marine interfaces, not bolted on afterwards.
- Standard integration. NMEA-0183 and NMEA-2000, so the unit drops into existing installations.
- Field-updatable firmware. Developed in-house, so the unit keeps improving after it is installed.
- Designed for type approval from the outset. IEC 62287-1 and RED requirements shape the design from the start, rather than being retrofitted to a finished board.

Who is behind it
Marine AIS is a project of CValdesS Cloud Solutions, an embedded hardware and firmware practice based in Madrid, Spain.
We design, build and ship our own hardware, including LoRa mesh boards with Ethernet and PoE and an APRS internet gateway, and we contribute to open-source radio firmware. Our work is public:
